Automation Technician

ARC Integration Inc. is an industrial automation and controls company serving manufacturing, processing, and municipal water and wastewater customers throughout Eastern Ontario. We specialize in PLC programming, HMI and SCADA systems, industrial networking, robotics, control panel integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
We are seeking a motivated Automation Technician to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone with hands-on industrial electrical, controls, instrumentation, or automation experience who enjoys troubleshooting equipment, working with customers, and developing practical solutions.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced automation professionals to install, troubleshoot, program, test, and commission industrial control systems. Projects may involve manufacturing equipment, robotic systems, process controls, pumping stations, water treatment facilities, and other automated machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot industrial electrical, instrumentation, PLC, HMI, SCADA, networking, and automation-related issues.
- Assist with the installation, testing, and commissioning of control systems and automated equipment.
- Modify and develop PLC and HMI programs under the direction of senior automation specialists.
- Connect to and diagnose industrial equipment using programming and diagnostic software.
- Perform control panel inspections, wiring checks, loop checks, and I/O testing.
- Configure sensors, variable-frequency drives, motor controls, communication devices, and industrial networks.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, P&IDs, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Document program changes, troubleshooting findings, equipment settings, and completed work.
- Provide professional on-site support to customers.
- Participate in occasional emergency service calls, shutdowns, or work outside regular business hours.
- Follow all customer, company, and regulatory safety requirements.
Qualifications
- College diploma, apprenticeship, or relevant experience in electrical engineering technology, instrumentation, industrial automation, robotics, mechatronics, or a related field.
- Experience working with industrial machinery, electrical control systems, or automated equipment.
- Basic understanding of PLCs, HMIs, sensors, motor controls, and industrial communications.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and troubleshoot circuits using a multimeter and other diagnostic tools.
- Strong mechanical and technical problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small technical team.
- Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel to customer facilities throughout the Belleville, Quinte, Kingston, Cobourg, and surrounding areas.
Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:
- Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLCs and Studio 5000
- Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal
- FactoryTalk, AVEVA, Wonderware, or other HMI/SCADA platforms
- Industrial Ethernet, managed switches, remote access systems, and network troubleshooting
- Variable-frequency drives, servo systems, and motion control
- Robotics and machine vision systems
- Municipal water and wastewater systems
- Industrial instrumentation and process controls
- AutoCAD Electrical or other electrical design software
- Control panel assembly, wiring, and testing
Applicants are not expected to have experience with every system listed. Training and mentorship will be provided based on the successful candidate’s existing skills and experience.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on position involving a combination of office-based programming, control panel testing, and field work at industrial and municipal facilities. The role may require working around operating machinery, construction areas, electrical equipment, outdoor facilities, and confined or elevated work areas where properly trained and authorized.
