This isn’t a passive data-entry role. Our construction firm is a fast-growing, high-performance company, and we need an exceptional, sharp Financial Controller / Bookkeeper to step in, take absolute ownership of the accounting department, and protect our financial health.
We do not micromanage—and we don't have time to hand-hold. We need a self-directed professional who takes complete ownership of their space. You are someone who thinks steps ahead, anticipates needs, and handles the details before ownership even has to ask. When we aren't around, we shouldn't have to wonder what you're working on; we should know the department is running flawlessly because you are driving it.

What You’ll Own & Control
- Balance the Books: Maintain flawless financial records.
- CRA, Tax & Compliance Mastery: Take full ownership of government remittances, strict payroll tax management, GST filing, and maintaining pristine, audit-ready records. You know CRA regulations inside and out.
- Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage A/P, A/R, payroll, complex journal entries, and accurate monthly/annual reconciliations.
- Collections & Cashflow Discipline: Follow up on outstanding accounts firmly, confidently, and professionally. You are friendly but persistent—always respectful, but relentless about never letting company money slip through the cracks.
- Job Costing & Construction Analytics: Track project budgets, analyze project-driven financials, and ensure overall profitability is crystal clear.
- Reporting & Strategy: Deliver sharp, timely cash-flow reports, budget-to-actual variations, and actionable financial insights directly to ownership.
Your Authority
You will be trusted to run the day-to-day financial operations. While ownership collaborates on big-picture strategic decisions.
What You Bring
- Absolute Independence: You never wait around for the "next task." You see what needs to be done, prioritize it, and execute seamlessly without direction.
- Construction or Trades Background (Non-Negotiable): You deeply understand job costing, progress draws, and project-driven financials.
- 5–10+ Years of Proven Experience: A rock-solid track record in full-cycle bookkeeping or acting as a controller.
- Assertive, Professional Communication: You are comfortable making daily calls with confidence, authority, and poise.
- Tech Savvy: Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and standard construction management software.
