JouleGrid is continuing to expand as we design and deliver modern, high-performance energy systems across North America. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer – Power Systems to support the development, design, and integration of electrical systems for major power generation and energy infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Project Manager, Electrical & Controls, this role spans the full engineering lifecycle—from conceptual studies and system architecture through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and utility
Why Join JouleGrid
At JouleGrid, you’ll contribute to the delivery of smarter, cleaner, and more reliable energy systems in an environment defined by ownership, technical excellence, and trust. Your work will directly impact major power and energy projects and the future of distributed and utility-scale energy infrastructure.
What You’ll Contribute
- Support business development and early-stage engineering by evaluating grid interconnection strategies, switchgear configurations, transformer sizing, MCC requirements, and overall electrical system architecture for JouleGrid power plant solutions
- Develop LV, MV, and HV electrical designs including single-line diagrams, generator paralleling and synchronization systems, protection philosophies, relay settings, and integration with distributed and utility-scale generation
- Prepare detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, load lists, equipment sizing calculations, and specifications for distribution, controls, auxiliary systems, lighting, and ventilation
- Perform power system studies including arc flash, protective device coordination, short circuit, harmonics, and motor start analyses using engineering tools such as ETAP
- Specify electrical equipment and develop interconnection drawings in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sound engineering judgment
- Review vendor drawings, prepare electrical bills of materials (BOMs) and procurement release packages, and support contractor bidding and proposal evaluation
- Coordinate with mechanical, structural, architectural, and civil teams to deliver complete construction drawing packages
- Interface with utilities, suppliers, integrators, and contractors to clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and support utility interconnection processes
- Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with issued-for-construction (IFC) drawings
- Support programming, testing, commissioning, and startup activities across JouleGrid projects
- Provide technical support to internal teams, clients, and service personnel locally and internationally
Technical Requirements
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Canada with 5+ years of experience in electrical power system design
- Strong applied knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, including conductor sizing, protection coordination, and installation standards
- Technical understanding of power generation and synchronization systems using reciprocating engines or comparable technologies
- Experience designing LV, MV, and HV distribution systems, including SLDs, MCCs, building electrical systems, and protection/control diagrams
- Experience specifying transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, UPS systems, and other power distribution equipment
- Knowledge of substation design, metering, grounding systems, motor control architectures, and essential power systems
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical
- Experience using power system analysis tools (ETAP preferred) for load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, harmonics, and motor start studies
Professional & Execution Skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- High attention to detail and strong technical documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple design tasks in parallel within active project environments
- Sound engineering judgment and commitment to technical excellence
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation and performance-driven growth opportunities
- Continuous professional development and training support
- A safety-focused environment with strong operational discipline
- A collaborative engineering culture grounded in integrity, accountability, and innovation
