Summit Veterinary Pharmacy is currently looking for a Pharmacy Assistant to fill one full-time temporary (6 months) vacancy in our busy Bulk Dispensing Department.
Located in Aurora, Ontario, Summit has been supplying prescription compounded medications to veterinary clinics across Canada for over 20 years. Principle Responsibilities:
- Review the prescription’s accuracy with the hard copy.
- Compound custom aliquot prescriptions and the staging of stock prescriptions.
- Label the compounded preparation or staged container/bag correctly [Rx label, lot label, cautionary label and auxiliary label(s)].
- Dispense the finished product in the appropriate packaging, ensuring that the container is free of dust.
- Review the Master Formula with the hard copy for accuracy.
- Manually calculate and prepare custom aliquot prescriptions.
- Safely operate all equipment in the area, ensuring all applicable SOPs are being followed.
- Weigh all prescription ingredients using an analytical scale or the appropriate bulk scale.
- Perform written calculations using the correct formula.
- Sift, mix and refine the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) using the appropriate hand screen or appropriate machine.
- Stay abreast of any changes to the prescription lot.
- Maintain an adequate stock of supplies.
- Complete the daily cleaning schedule and maintain the general cleanliness of the area.
- Perform cleaning and verification activities according to the guidance standards.
- Perform preventative maintenance and sanitization of machinery.
- Determine the scoop weights of all new lot products and record on change on chart.
- Record expired drugs in the Drug Destruction Log and dispose of them accordingly.
- Complete tasks as assigned.
- Liaise between Production, Management and Senior Management.
- Assist in other areas during slow periods as outlined by your Team Leader
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of GMP, and SOP procedures is an asset
Hours of Work:
- Mon-Fri (8:00am to 4:30pm) (Subject to change)
- May be required to work additional hours
