About the Role
Community Futures Greenstone (CFG) is hiring a Community Recovery Assistant to support small businesses affected by the 2025 Manitoba wildfires across Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, and Sherridon.
This is a community-facing, people-first role. Your job is to make sure no business owner falls through the cracks- reaching out to impacted businesses, having genuine conversations about where they're at, capturing what they need, and connecting them to the right support at the right time.
You won't be expected to have all the answers. CFG's team includes experienced business advisors who will handle in-depth financial triage, insurance navigation, and recovery planning. Your role is to be the trusted first point of contact- the person who listens well, gathers the right information, and makes sure the handoff happens.
What You Will DoReach Out and Build Trust
You will make direct contact with wildfire-impacted business owners across the region- by phone, in person, and through community connections. Many business owners won't ask for help on their own. Your job is to make it easy for them to engage.
Have the First Conversation
Using a structured intake process developed by CFG, you will have initial conversations with business owners to understand what happened to their business, where they're struggling, and what kind of support they need. You don't need to solve problems in this conversation- you need to listen well and capture what you're hearing accurately.
Manage Files and Follow-Ups
You will maintain organized client files for each business you connect with- tracking their situation, what's been discussed, what support has been offered, and what's still outstanding. Timely follow-up is a core part of this role.
Coordinate Handoffs
When a business owner needs more substantive support including financial triage, insurance help, workforce planning, etc., you will coordinate a warm handoff to CFG's advisors with a clear summary of the situation. A good handoff means the business owner doesn't have to repeat themselves and the advisor knows what they're walking into.
Support Recovery Events
You will provide logistics and coordination support for community recovery events- helping with scheduling, outreach, registration, and follow-up. CFG's advisors will lead facilitation; your role is to make sure events run smoothly and participants feel welcomed.
Stay Connected in the Community
You will maintain relationships with local business owners, community organizations, and municipal contacts across the region. When you hear about a business that needs support, you follow up.
