Purpose:
Using SolidWorks software to design and detail store fixtures incorporating wood-based, curved metal surface, solid surface, acrylic, and other materials to meet client design specifications, quality and scheduling requirements and ISPA corporate and operational goals, objectives, processes, and procedures.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Oversees all customer approval drawings and production drawings coming out of the Engineering Department. Responsible for overall productivity within Engineering Department.
Makes recommendations for process improvement with regard to Engineering design efficiency as well as finding efficiencies in assembly process wherever possible.
Designs and details wooden store fixtures using Solidworks, from information provided by Project Management, Customer representatives and ISPA production team including: (90%)
- taking customer concept drawings and designs and using them as a basis to develop shop drawings to assist with production of manufactured final product.
- assign part number and project numbers based on customer code;
- following up with Project Manager and other team members to obtain verify and obtain complete information re: project requirements;
- consulting with production to assess and determine optimum production strategy for manufacturing overall project and components;
- working with production and others to determine solutions to non-standard details and joints on fixtures to ensure optimum utilization of materials, labour and machining;
- monitoring fabrication process and consulting with production to resolve fabrication issues and discuss better ways to engineer components;
- following up to receive drawings red lined from production;
- preparing final working drawings based on red lines and client approval.,
May assist in estimates preparation using ABACI, to quote new/modified projects for client approval, including: (2.5%)
- preparing preliminary materials list and quantity take-off;
- obtaining a minimum of two quotes on outsourced parts from supplier list approved by Materials Management;
- preparing preliminary Bill of Materials (BOM) and routings based on engineering strategy determined in Preliminary Design Review meeting to capture all material, labour, machining and other costs;
- finalizing BOM upon client approval of quote and creating part numbers based on customer code to correspond with Solidworks drawing numbers.
May assist in procurement of materials, including: (2.5%)
- contacting suppliers and negotiating price, delivery & payment terms and conditions and preparing purchase orders.
May be required to create Work Orders in ABACI for individual fixtures to provide production with accurate material amounts, appropriate routing, as well as, any special instructions for manufacturing fixtures and sub-assemblies, including:

- translating Solidworks Bill of Materials and routings onto Work Orders;
- advising and following up with procurement on materials with long lead times;
- working closely with production to provide CNC route paths and to answer any assembly questions;
Oversees the work of Junior Engineering Designers and checks their work for consistency, having them revise and correct any dimensioning or design errors with instructions as to why the error was made and how to prevent it from happening again in the future to ensure a process of continuous improvement in that department.
Follows requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Act and ISPA’s Health and Safety Program, policies and plans, including: using or wearing required personal protective equipment; promoting health and safety in the workplace; reporting any identified machine and equipment defects, potential hazards,
Reports problems or unsafe situations and any contraventions of the Health & Safety Act to management; not removing or making ineffective required protective devices e.g. guards; not engaging in pranks, rough or boisterous conduct, feats of strength; unnecessary running or other unsafe practices.
And performing other related auxiliary duties, as assigned

Qualifications
Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks software use and best practices for production efficiency.
Aptitude in determining optimum engineering approach and fabrication methods and techniques for cutting, machining and assembling components, preferably store fixtures or cabinetry components generally acquired through post-secondary education from a recognized community college in Cabinetmaking or Architectural or Engineering Technology.
Mathematical skills to calculate measurements and tolerances.
Ability, skill, and experience in using Solidworks software to develop shop and other drawings.
Understanding of estimating and procurement methods and techniques to provide support to team members.
Preferred:
Graduate of Javelin SolidWorks training program.
Strong working knowledge of wood industry production and fabrication process including wooden cabinet joinery process, CNC manufacturing process and basic assembly practices and procedures.
Salary Range:
$70K - $90K (Negotiable based on relevant industry experience)
