Position: INDIGENOUS HOUSING FIRST CASE MANAGER
Location: Orillia home office with travel throughout Barrie and Midland as necessary or required
Supervisor: Executive Director, Biminaawzogin Regional Aboriginal Women’s Circle (BRAWC)
Term: Immediately; to March 31, 2027, with possibility of extension based on funding

POSITION SUMMARY
The Indigenous Regional Housing First Program implements a regional culturally sensitive direct service strategy that addresses the barriers faced by Indigenous people experiencing homelessness through a housing first approach. The project assists 12-15 Indigenous people experiencing homelessness into independent and permanent housing, providing additional supports and services as needed.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Provide community-based case management to Indigenous individuals and families experiencing chronic homelessness at a high level of acuity in the areas of, but not limited to: independent living skills, housing stabilization, money management, community integration, employment linkages, and community connection;
- Ability to complete assessments to assess acuity and determine appropriate supports required
- Engagement of community partners to coordinate case management with a focus on providing cultural supports to address barriers
- Act as a support and liaison for Indigenous individuals and families as appropriate;
- Assist in development, implementation and revision of support plans; monitoring progress toward identified goals; working with participants on a day-to-day basis
- Provide crisis management for Indigenous individuals; making connections for intervention, as appropriate;
- Attend and participate in community based committees and advisory groups;
- Flexible hours including evenings and weekends may be required
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- community College Diploma or a University Degree in social services or other closely related field or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities as determined by the employer;
- minimum of 2 years recent full-time work experience within a social services/health care or related environment, including providing case management to individuals/families experiencing chronic/episodic homelessness;
- experience and knowledge of the needs of Indigenous individuals and families including Indigenous and non-Indigenous community services and supports;
- demonstrated knowledge of Housing First principles, guidelines and related housing concepts, acts and regulations;
- an understanding of case management; including assessment, service planning, skills reaching, monitoring and evaluation;
- ability to engage sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication with administrative and organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks;
- strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work independently, as well as, part of a team;
- motivated and organized; effective problem solving and planning skills
- ability to serve as a role model and contribute to a positive work environment
- valid class G drivers license and use of personal insured vehicle is required
