Forward Deployed Engineers are product engineers with a strong operational mindset. You own features across the full lifecycle: design, build, deploy, test, and production, without handing work off to a separate operations or integrations team.
You will work on a cloud-native wealth management platform built on Go microservices, a Next.js micro-frontend portal, and a PostgreSQL data layer. The platform exposes REST APIs for integration with internal and external applications. AI-assisted development is a core practice on this team, and engineers are expected to use these tools responsibly while applying sound engineering judgment where human oversight is essential.
This role is hybrid and requires attendance at our downtown Toronto office (250 Yonge St, Toronto) and/or client office a minimum of 2 days per week, subject to change.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Design and implement features end-to-end across Go microservices, Next.js portlets, PostgreSQL schema, and OLAP data projections, with full ownership from design through deployment and testing.
- Extend the OLAP read model via CDC-driven data projections, write consuming queries in reporting and search services, and follow safe multi-step schema deployment practices.
- Build and maintain platform integration surfaces, including REST APIs and OpenAPI specifications, for browser, application, and AI consumers.
- Design and implement agentic workflows within the platform, identifying opportunities to automate repeatable financial operations while ensuring secure and auditable API interactions.
- Use AI coding tools responsibly to accelerate development through code generation, testing, and documentation while carefully reviewing all output before deployment.
- Own deployment infrastructure, including build automation, Docker/Podman Compose, Terraform modules, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Drive quality through comprehensive unit, integration, API, end-to-end, and load testing before releasing features.
- Perform code reviews, mentor team members, enforce architectural standards, and maintain platform documentation.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong platform or backend focus.
- Proficiency in Go, including microservice architecture, HTTP middleware, repository patterns, PostgreSQL integration, and distributed systems debugging.
- Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, migrations, logical replication concepts, and query optimization.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, and Next.js, with the ability to independently build and deliver features within a monorepo.
- Experience designing REST APIs, including versioning, pagination, and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
- Practical daily use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent.
- Experience with containerization and CI/CD pipelines using Docker or Podman.
- Test-driven mindset with experience across unit, integration, end-to-end, and load testing.
- Experience deploying applications to AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Nice to Have
- Experience with CDC, event streaming, logical replication, or projection table design.
- Experience building AI agent tooling or Model Context Protocol (MCP) solutions.
- Experience with LLM tool-use patterns, structured outputs, function calling, or agent orchestration.
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
- Experience with micro-frontend architectures.
- Experience with OIDC, Keycloak, or Terraform.
- Wealth management domain knowledge, including portfolios, custodians, or securities.

Within your first few months, you'll be expected to:
- Meet with stakeholders and confidently lead technical discovery sessions.
- Convert loosely defined business problems into scalable production solutions.
- Independently deliver complete features spanning backend services, frontend experiences, APIs, databases, infrastructure, and cloud deployment.
- Use AI to significantly accelerate engineering delivery while maintaining high standards of quality and security.
- Earn the trust of business users by delivering practical solutions quickly and iterating based on feedback.
We're looking for engineers who combine technical depth with product thinking.
The ideal candidate:
- Thrives in environments with little ambiguity removed.
- Enjoys solving business problems as much as writing code.
- Is comfortable making architectural decisions independently.
- Can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Thinks like a product owner rather than a ticket implementer.
- Takes ownership of outcomes instead of waiting for direction.
- Learns new technologies quickly and enjoys solving unfamiliar problems.
- Naturally uses AI as a force multiplier in daily engineering work.
- Wants to build products, not just software.
