Job Title: Senior Accountant - Permanent, Full-Time
Locally owned and operated, Schooner Transport is in the business of transporting various petroleum-based products (asphalt, jet fuel, ethanol, gas, diesel, etc.) to & from various refineries, terminals, bulk plants & gas stations throughout eastern Ontario & western Québec.
Our organization is looking for a seasoned, detail-oriented accounting professional who embraces a hands-on approach and can oversee a small team responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping and end-to-end accounting deliverables, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, government remittances and bi-weekly payroll..
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensuring the completion of:
· Responsible for full monthly accounting cycle.
- Preparing of the bi-weekly payroll
- Overseeing Accounts receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (AP)
- Collections of overdue receivables
- Preparing Bank Reconciliation
- Posting of month-end journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations
- Preparing government remittances and ensuring government-levied taxes & fees are appropriately accounted
- Compilation & submission of fiscal year-end documents for external accountants
- Supervise a team including at least two other individuals, ultimately responsible for their duties, responsibilities and overall performance
- Build effective working relationships with external customers, vendors, financial institutions; mentor and guide less experienced team members
- Recommend and assist with the upgrade or modification of existing accounting policies, procedures and methodologies
- Ensure filing system is maintained properly and that all accounting files are up to date
Qualifications:
-- Bachelor Degree in Accounting (if not from a Canadian institution, please provide equivalency confirmation from World Education Services if available)
- Minimum – Five (5) years accounting experience
- Proficient in MS Excel
- Knowledge of Sage – highly desirable
- CPA designation an asset
- Having fulfilled a supervisory role previously, considered a very important attribute
- Must already be residing and be able to work in Canada; the company does NOT sponsor.
Compensation:
$65,000 to $80,000 annually, subject to adjustment based on candidate’s qualifications, experience, etc.
