Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our centre. Blubear is a children’s therapeutic centre in Oakville supporting children ages 5–12 and teens 13–18 with complex needs, neurodivergent profiles, and trauma histories. Our approach, which we call Structured Warmth, pairs deep warmth and connection with a clear, predictable routine within a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming environment. We support every child to thrive as exactly who they are.
Duties
- Conduct occupational therapy assessments, sensory processing, fine and gross motor, self-regulation, and daily living skills
- Design and deliver individual and small-group intervention, including sensory circuits and motor work
- Build and oversee sensory diets, and embed them into the daily program with support staff
- Strengthen our daily living skills programming, self-care, feeding, independence routines
- Coach support workers and families so strategies carry into the program day and home
- Contribute to individual support plans and maintain clinical documentation
- Collaborate with our interdisciplinary team, Registered Psychotherapist, behaviour support, and educator
- Provide documentation families can use toward Ontario Autism Program (OAP) and insurance funding
Qualifications
- Valid license or certification as an Occupational Therapist in the relevant state or region
- Prior experience in hospital settings preferred, especially with pediatrics and acute care cases
- Strong knowledge of case management principles and patient care protocols
- Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to occupational therapy practice
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with healthcare teams and patients’ families
- Ability to adapt treatment approaches based on individual patient needs and clinical observations
- Experience working with pediatric populations is a plus but not required
