About Us
MARU Japanese Bistro is a modern Japanese restaurant located in Toronto's East End (Leslieville). We are a small, passionate team dedicated to creating thoughtful dishes and memorable dining experiences. We are looking for a full-time Sushi Chef who takes pride in their craft and wants to grow with our team.
Responsibilities
- Prepare sushi, maki rolls, sashimi, and MARU's signature nori canapés to restaurant standards
- Maintain consistent quality, presentation, and portion control
- Set up and stock stations with all necessary ingredients and supplies
- Ensure food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards are maintained at all times
- Keep prep levels organized for smooth service
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation
- Work closely with the kitchen team to provide efficient and professional service
Qualifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of sushi preparation experience preferred
- Passion for food and a willingness to continue learning and improving
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
- Must provide and maintain your own professional knife(s)
- Food Handler (SafeCheck) Certification is an asset
- Criminal Record Check is required

Compensation & Benefits
- Full-Time, Permanent Position
- Salary: Starting from approximately $50,000 per year, negotiable based on experience and skills
- Staff meals provided during shifts
- Opportunity to learn, grow, and develop within our restaurant
Schedule
- 5 days
- Evening and weekend availability required
