Position Summary
Steelcon is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Fitter to join our manufacturing team. The Fitter is responsible for reading and interpreting structural steel drawings, laying out, fitting, and assembling steel components to specifications, and ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards. This role plays a critical part in the fabrication of structural steel products used in commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and fabrication details.
- Lay out and fit structural steel components, plates, beams, columns, and miscellaneous steel according to specifications.
- Measure, mark, align, and position materials for assembly and welding.
- Operate fabrication equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Verify dimensions and ensure assemblies meet quality standards and tolerances.
- Inspect materials and completed assemblies for defects and compliance with drawings.
- Work closely with welders, crane operators, and production team members to meet production schedules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Report equipment issues, quality concerns, or safety hazards to supervision.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience fitting structural steel in a fabrication shop environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings.
- Knowledge of fabrication processes, steel layouts, and assembly techniques.
- Proficient in the use of measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, levels, and calipers.
- Ability to work accurately with minimal supervision.
- Experience operating overhead cranes and material handling equipment is considered an asset.
- CWB welding certification is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Location, Shift, Hours of Work & Working Conditions
- Location: 23 Smith St., St. Catherines, ON L2P 3J7
- We are actively hiring for both the day and afternoon shift, working 44 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 5:30 am to 5:15 pm and Monday to Thursday 5:30 pm to 5:15 am
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment and structural steel materials.
