2026 LEAP into Literacy Summer Camp Teaching Position Description
Program Location: St. James Town (Rose Ave Jr. P.S. 75 Ontario St, Toronto, ON M4X 1N4)
Program Dates:July 6-31, 2026 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Stipend: $1000/week
We are looking for innovative teachers who want to be part of an engaging, collaborative teaching team in a camp-like setting! Candidates must be Ontario Certified teachers. We serve elementary aged students in historically marginalized communities.
Program Description
During the month of July, we will offer a LEAP into Literacy Summer Program to students in Grades 1 to 6 in St. James Town (also SK). Students will participate in a full day program from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. For the staff, the program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to allow for preparation and planning time. Students will engage in literacy instruction, recreational time, and a variety of innovative workshops and trips.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Pre- Camp Responsibilities
- Attend mandatory staff training/orientation planning sessions in May/June. Date(s) will be determined based on staff availability
- Review curriculum framework goals and any other program related instructional materials
- Read and sign LiftED Communication and Behaviour policies
- Provide background check: vulnerable sector screening or the annual offence declaration that you receive from TDSB for clearance verification
- Provide Direct Deposit information for payment purposes and relevant payroll forms
Responsible for, but not limited to
- Pre-program planning with other teaching staff and attending staff meetings during the course of the program
- Implementing daily literacy program of reading and writing activities and experiential learning experiences based on the curriculum framework provided
- Modifying curriculum framework as needed for the students
- Implementing and managing reading, writing, and attitude assessments in a timely manner during week one and week four
- Completing and facilitating student-led conference at end of Camp
- Working with assigned youth volunteer(s) to establish appropriate teaching assistance and supervision
- Assisting in a variety of workshops, such as movement, art, and/or STEM, and culminating assembly
- Administering and data input of the monitoring and evaluation framework (student pre/post assessment, teacher post assessment)
- Providing ongoing feedback to students
- Meeting with youth volunteer(s) to review “measure of success” volunteer criteria, and provide feedback for volunteers at the end of camp.
- Implementing safety procedures throughout the program
- Fulfilling assigned lunch, recess and end of day dismissal responsibilities
- Leading extra-curricular activities when appropriate
- Supervision of class when on field trips and onsite workshops
- Submitting expenses with completed reimbursement form

Licence/Certification:
