Position: Community Crisis Intervention Worker - Relief

Description:
Gerstein Centre is a voluntary, community-based 24-hour mental health crisis intervention service located in downtown Toronto area. We have 2 residential sites, with 24 beds in total. Gerstein on Charles (10 beds) operates a 24-hour crisis phone line, provides support and crisis intervention to people in the community through the mobile crisis team and can offer people experiencing mental health crisis short-stays (3-5 days) at the Centre. Gerstein on Bloor (14 beds) offers short-term residential crisis support to adults with mental health issues experiencing crisis compounded by involvement with the justice system, serious substance use issues and/or homelessness.
Successful applicants will have:
- Availability during the week, Monday-Friday – day or night shifts.
- At least 3 years experience providing community-based crisis intervention, mental health, and addictions services strong assessment skills, including but not limited to, suicide risk assessment.
- An extensive knowledge of community supports available in the City of Toronto experience with the mental health, criminal justice and shelter systems.
- A solid understanding of Harm Reduction and Recovery philosophies.
- Demonstrated capability to be flexible and to work under pressure excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in English with additional language(s) considered an asset computer proficiency within a Windows environment.

- The position involves shift work which includes weekdays, afternoons, overnights and weekends. Applications without weekday or weeknight availability will not be considered at this time.
- The position includes some light housekeeping and cooking.
- Successful candidates for this position will require a satisfactory Police Records Check/Vulnerable Sector Screening.
