POSITION OVERVIEW
The Child Care and After School Supervisor will ensure that our child care and after school programs provide quality care, service and support to the participants and their families. The Supervisor will provide leadership in marketing, set-up and day-to-day operational activities including the recruitment, management and supervision of a staff team. The Supervisor will provide leadership and stability in the development and direct delivery of programs.
Please Note: This position is a 12–18 month maternity leave coverage contract. The successful candidate will join our team on a temporary basis to provide leadership and operational support while a member of our team is on maternity leave
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child care and After School Facilities Standards. Plans and implements a consistent child centered program in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick standards.
- Understands and complies with YMCA Playing to Learn, Place to Connect Curriculum and the New Brunswick Curriculum Framework.
- Demonstrates a commitment to children’s learning and is responsive to research.
- To manage and coordinate the day-to-day affairs of respective programs and to be the direct contact person for participants and referrals.
- To ensure that programs are promoted in the community and to work closely with his/her supervisor on broader-based recruitment strategies to ensure that programs are successful.
- To ensure that all arrangements are made for effective program delivery including space, facilitation, child care, materials, supplies and snacks. You may delegate some of these responsibilities to others, however retain overall responsibility for ensuring all necessary conditions for program delivery are met.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day administration and record keeping for programs. Will provide verbal and written reports to supervisor as required and in accordance to the work plan.
- Programs will be administered in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Reports and records are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
- Understands, follow and promotes YMCA Child Protection policies and procedures with staff and within center.
- Tabulate and analyze weekly center metrics determining patterns and making suggestions to meet targets when underperforming.
- Work with City of Saint John and Anglophone South School District. Maintain good communication with all aspects of program and any issues that may arise.
- Direct supervision, recruitment and performance management of Child Care, After School, and Day Camp staff.
- Development and management of centre budgets. Manage to be on or above target monthly. Ensure accounts receivables are kept current and collections policies followed.
- Implement and monitor Playing to Learn and Place to Connect, Child Protection and Licensing Inspections as per action plans.
- Attend Playing to Learn training and Place to Connect provided by YMCA to enhance program development.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- ECE Certificate or equivalent training.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Child Care, After-School or Youth program.
- Supervisory experience is an asset.
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, particularly regarding split shifts, site locations (i.e. Child Care and After-School).
- Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, and maintain focus in a busy center.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills including written and verbal, a team player.
- Medical Certificate
- Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
