Mechanic

Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. If you are an experienced Heavy-Duty Mechanic professional who excels in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mobile mining equipment, we want you on our team!
Role Overview
As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of our underground mobile mining fleet. Reporting to the Supervisor, Mobile Maintenance, you will be responsible for leading and executing maintenance, repair, diagnostic, and service activities on a variety of heavy mobile equipment. Working closely with maintenance teams, supervisors, and operations personnel, you will help maximize equipment uptime, support safe production targets, and contribute to continuous operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Inspection & Diagnostics: Inspect mobile mining equipment, identify faults and malfunctions, and perform detailed diagnostics using computerized testing equipment and troubleshooting methods.
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform equipment removal, installation, alignment, repairs, and overhauls on underground mobile mining equipment and heavy trucks.
- Hydraulic & Electrical Troubleshooting: Interpret and troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical systems using schematics to diagnose complex equipment issues.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance activities including cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, and testing to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Work Order & Parts Management: Open and maintain work orders, identify required parts, complete parts lists, and document repairs accurately using available resources.
What You Bring to the Table
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical experience in underground mining operations.
- Proven ability to diagnose, repair, maintain, and overhaul mobile mining equipment.
- Excellent understanding of hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- Ontario or Interprovincial Trade Qualification preferred.
- Accredited in Underground Common Core Modules.
- Specialty module accreditations considered a strong asset.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
- Passion for maintaining high-performance equipment and supporting safe mining operations.

Working Conditions
- Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off – 10-hour shifts.

Hourly Rate: CAD $45.60 - $58.57
The expected salary range for this role is intended to support transparency and informed decision making. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience and internal equity.
