Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join our crane service team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mobile cranes, boom trucks, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, and related heavy equipment. This role requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diagnostic skills to ensure equipment reliability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on cranes and heavy equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot engine, transmission, drivetrain, and electronic control system issues.
- Conduct crane inspections and identify equipment deficiencies.
- Repair and replace hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, and components.
- Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required.
- Complete safety inspections in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize diagnostic software and manufacturer service manuals.
- Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and inspection reports.
- Respond to emergency field service calls and equipment breakdowns.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and company safety standards.
Qualifications
- Education & Certification: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification, including Ontario 421A or equivalent Red Seal certification, is preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience working on cranes, construction equipment, or heavy-duty machinery.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Experience with diesel engines and computerized diagnostics.
- Ability to read schematics and technical manuals.
- Valid driver's license (DZ/AZ license considered an asset).
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience
- Specialization: Prior experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining cranes, boom trucks, material handling equipment, hydraulic lifting systems, or other heavy construction equipment is a significant asset.
- Familiarity with manufacturers such as Liebherr, Grove, Tadano, Manitowoc, Link-Belt, Terex, or Elliott.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Mobile field service experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
- Available for overtime and occasional weekend or emergency service work.
