POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to a HSE Director and working closely with Operations and the Project/Operations Management team, the Health and Safety Advisor will serve as the primary contact for health and safety matters across assigned projects and work groups. The Safety Advisor will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programs to promote a safe and compliant work environment. This position may be based in Alberta or Saskatchewan, with travel to project sites as required.
CORE RESPONSIBILITES
Safety & Compliance
- Emulates Forbes Bros core value of 'WE WORK SAFE' in all daily tasks
- Provide guidance to field employees and Foreman on the proper/safe execution of work tasks according to client, regulatory and company standards
- Function as a change agent in the transition to an interdependent culture
- Assist Workers, Supervisors, Managers and Leadership in performing hazard assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations, and assessing compliance with applicable legislation and internal/customer protocols
- Develop health and safety performance measures, and implement the Forbes Bros. Group HSE Strategic Business Plan
- Lead or support: Tailboard meetings, HSE training and orientations, corrective actions, and Project/HSE Business Plan initiatives
- Work with our clients to complete: Project Safety Plans, Hazard/Risk Registries, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and HSE Audits
- Support workers as well as the company with WCB management processes or any other protocol related to workplace injuries
- Work closely with Operations Management in managing aspects of HSE including incident prevention, training compliance, and addressing concerns
- Report on all incidents, client HSE concerns and regulatory involvement to the H&S Director and Operational Management
- Develop job safety analysis and safe work procedures as required
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Actively engage workers and supervisors by having a focused field presence to improve safety performance and address concerns in real time
- Lead by example, continually showing support of the client and company HSE initiatives
- Collaborate with field employees, supervisors, and managers to identify and execute opportunities for continual improvement
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- Experience as a Journeyman Lineman or Apprentice is preferred
- 3 -5 years dedicated full-time experience as a HS&E practitioner.
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- BCSP certification or similar is preferred
- Strong organizational, communication (spoken and written) and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of common computer software, enabled to design communications, assist with training/orientation development, write lessons learned, incident investigations and perform data analysis.

Additional Details
This position is field based and requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract
- Successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- Work on transmission line projects throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta, with an initial assignment in Regina, SK followed by Edmonton, AB
- Work a project-based rotation schedule, initially anticipated to be 21 days on / 7 days off
- Eligible for $200/day LOA where applicable while working away from home.
- Be willing to travel and relocate to project sites as required
