About Primal Athletics
Primal Athletics is a high-performance training facility specializing in youth athletic development, sport-specific performance, and long-term athlete health. We work with athletes from age 8 through adulthood, combining evidence-based training, biomechanics, and strength & conditioning to build resilient, fast, and confident movers.
We are expanding our coaching team and are seeking a Sports Performance Coach with a strong background in running mechanics, sprinting, or endurance-based movement, and a passion for developing athletes at all levels.
Position Overview
The Sports Performance Coach will be responsible for delivering high-quality training, movement instruction, and athlete development across youth, competitive, and adult populations. This role involves hands-on coaching, biomechanical observation, athlete communication, and collaboration with the Primal Athletics performance and rehabilitation team.
This is not a “just run workouts” role — this is a coaching and performance development position where your ability to observe, correct, communicate, and improve athlete movement is essential.
Primary Responsibilities
Athlete Coaching & Performance
- Coach and instruct athletes aged 8–20 (youth) and 20–60+ (adult & competitive)
- Provide technical coaching in running mechanics (sprinting, acceleration, top speed, and/or endurance running)
- Coach jumping, landing, and general movement quality
- Support strength-based athletic development
- Identify movement inefficiencies, injury-risk patterns, and performance limitations
- Deliver clear, age-appropriate, and effective coaching cues
Assessment & Reporting
- Observe and assess athlete movement and performance
- Take clear, accurate, and timely performance notes
- Report observations and athlete progress to the Head Strength & Conditioning Coordinator
- Communicate athlete needs, limitations, and progress within the coaching team
Team & Program Collaboration
- Work within a team-based coaching model
- Provide recommendations for training adjustments and modifications
- Contribute observations and ideas to improve individual athlete programs and team training plans
Facility & Professional Standards
- Assist with equipment safety and training floor organization
- Support facility cleanliness and professionalism
- Uphold a high standard of athlete care and safety
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Kinetics, or a closely related field
Recommended Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of coaching or athlete training experience
- Background in running, sprinting, track, or endurance training
- Competitive athletic experience as an athlete or coach
- Experience working with youth athletes
- Excellent communication and inspirational skills to motivate participants of all ages
- Leadership qualities with the ability to manage groups effectively
