This is your opportunity to join Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (Arthur Child). The Arthur Child Central Receiving Lab 7, as part of APL, provides support for sample receiving, data entry, shared laboratory supports, and sample transport for the APL testing labs located within the building. In addition, this lab works closely with the collection laboratory, portering, logistics and other APL lab teams to ensure efficient movement of incoming/outgoing samples and their transport within the Arthur Child. As a Laboratory Assistant I (LAI), you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. The LAI may support lab work in pre-analytical specimen handling, triaging, data entry, accessioning, processing, storage and transport, including packaging and shipment of specimens as required. Other responsibilities include responding to inquiries; cleaning; monitoring and preventative maintenance of common lab equipment and work areas; maintaining common supplies; transport of laboratory waste; updating inventory and data sheets; participating in lab quality and safety requirements and training co-workers and/or students. Must be able to work alone as well as with a team. This position includes day and evening shifts, Monday to Friday.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum two years current experience in a hospital/clinical laboratory setting. Technical experience with processing samples. Excellent typing and database entry abilities (both speed and accuracy). Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of programs. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to work independently. Superior organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize work and deliver accurate work under stressful conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year experience in accessioning/pre-analytics preferred. Experience with handling and packaging samples for external send-out. TDG with air training is an asset. Experience with Connect Care Beaker is preferred. Experience with Teams, Sharepoint and the internet is an asset.
