Position Overview
Club IDC is seeking a dependable, responsible, and community-minded Arena Attendant to help maintain the safe, clean, and welcoming operation of the arena.
The Arena Attendant is an important part of the day-to-day arena operation and will work with arena users, minor hockey, skating programs, community groups, and the public. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, taking initiative, and ensuring the facility is ready for scheduled activities.
This position may include evenings, weekends, early mornings, and holidays depending on the arena schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Arena Operations
- Open and close the arena as scheduled.
- Complete opening and closing procedures and ensure the facility is secure.
- Monitor the facility while groups and members of the public are using the arena.
- Ensure ice times, dressing rooms, public areas, and other spaces are ready for scheduled use.
- Assist with general arena operations and communicate any concerns to the appropriate Board representative.
- Follow arena policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Ice & Facility Maintenance
- Assist with ice maintenance, including operating the ice resurfacer and/or other ice-maintenance equipment as trained and authorized.
- Perform routine ice maintenance and grooming as required.
- Maintain clean and orderly dressing rooms, washrooms, lobby areas, and other common areas.
- Complete garbage removal and general housekeeping.
- Monitor and report maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns.
- Assist with snow removal and exterior maintenance as required.
- Complete minor routine maintenance tasks within the employee's training and abilities.
Customer Service & Facility Supervision
- Provide courteous and professional service to arena users and members of the public.
- Answer general questions regarding arena operations and direct more complex concerns to the appropriate Board representative.
- Ensure users follow arena rules and facility policies.
- Monitor activity in the facility and address minor issues appropriately.
- Report incidents, damages, unsafe conditions, or policy concerns to the Board.
- Help create a positive, respectful, and welcoming environment for children, families, teams, and community members.
Safety & Emergency Responsibilities
- Maintain awareness of safety hazards throughout the facility.
- Follow all applicable workplace health and safety requirements.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow the arena's emergency procedures.
- Complete required incident or maintenance reports.
- Ensure emergency exits and access areas remain clear.
- Immediately report serious safety concerns or facility damage.
Qualifications & Requirements
The successful applicant should have:
- A strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- The ability to interact respectfully with children, families, athletes, coaches, volunteers, and the general public.
- The ability to perform physical tasks associated with arena operations.
- The ability to work evenings, weekends, early mornings, and/or holidays as required.
- The ability to follow instructions, policies, and safety procedures.
- Basic problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Previous arena, maintenance, custodial, recreation, or customer-service experience is considered an asset.
- Experience operating an ice resurfacer or arena equipment is considered an asset, but training may be provided to the successful candidate.
Additional Requirements
Depending on the duties assigned, the successful applicant may be required to:
- Provide a satisfactory criminal record check and/or vulnerable sector check.
- Complete required workplace safety training.
- Complete arena-specific equipment training.
- Obtain or maintain required certifications for equipment operation.
Physical Requirements
This position involves physical work and may require:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Lifting and carrying supplies and equipment.
- Bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs.
- Working in cold arena conditions.
- Performing cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Responding quickly to facility or safety concerns.

- Experience with maintenance, cleaning, recreation, or arena operations.
- Experience operating equipment.
- Ability to respond appropriately to difficult situations or emergencies.
- Reliability and attendance.
