Product Development Engineering Co-op – Front-End I/O Connectors for AI/ML
Position Overview
Amphenol is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Co-op student to support the design and development of front-end I/O connectors used in next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) platforms.
This role provides hands-on exposure to high-speed connectivity solutions, including electrical, mechanical, and thermal design considerations. The Co-op will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to real product development programs supporting advanced compute architectures.

Assist in the design and development of high-performance front-end I/O connectors for AI/ML applications.

Support CAD modeling and drawing creation using tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.

Contribute to design activities focused on signal integrity, mechanical reliability, and thermal performance.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, mechanical, manufacturing) to support product integration.

Support the execution of electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing of connector designs.

Help collect, organize, and analyze test data to identify performance trends and issues.

Assist in preparing test reports and documenting validation results.

Participate in lab activities and prototype evaluations.

Assist engineers in tracking project timelines, deliverables, and design iterations.

Maintain organized engineering documentation, including drawings, test results, and reports.

Support continuous improvement efforts in development workflows and documentation practices.

Gain exposure to customer requirements and application use cases in AI/ML hardware systems.

Support preparation of materials for design reviews, prototypes, and technical discussions.

Assist in translating customer needs into engineering inputs under guidance.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.

Completed at least the 2nd or 3rd year of study (preferred).

Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals and mechanical design principles.

Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) is an asset.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Exposure to high-speed signaling concepts or electronics hardware.

Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, HFSS).

Interest in data center hardware, AI/ML infrastructure, or high-performance computing.

Experience with hands-on lab work, prototyping, or testing.

Direct experience in cutting-edge connector development for AI/ML systems.

Exposure to real-world engineering workflows from concept to validation.

Mentorship from experienced engineers in high-speed interconnect design.

The base pay range for this position is $20-$30 per hour. In determining the rate of pay, Amphenol considers a variety of nondiscriminatory factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant industry experience, qualifications, skills, and education.
