Role Summary
The Basketball Specialist is responsible for teaching the fundamentals of basketball, skill development, and creating a fun and encouraging environment for campers. This includes leading engaging sports sessions, supervising activities and equipment use, and ensuring all programs are conducted safely.
The Basketball Specialist works closely with counsellors, fellow specialists, and the Program Coordinator to support campers of all skill levels. They help create an inclusive program that inspires confidence, teamwork, curiosity, and enjoyment of physical activity and sports.
Responsibilities
- Teach campers the fundamentals of various basketball, including basic techniques, rules, teamwork, and game awareness.
- Lead interactive, fun, and developmentally appropriate sports sessions tailored to different ages and abilities.
- Organize and supervise a variety of sports and recreational activities, ensuring safe participation and proper equipment usage.
- Create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment for all participants.
- Provide individualized instruction and encouragement to help campers build confidence, skills, and sportsmanship.
- Ensure a safe environment by following all camp safety guidelines and equipment procedures.
- Collaborate with counsellors, specialists, and leadership to integrate sports and physical activities into the overall camp program.
- Adapt activities to meet the needs and interests of diverse campers and group dynamics.
- Maintain a professional, welcoming, and approachable demeanor when interacting with campers, parents, and staff.
Experience
- Multiple years of experience participating in basketball and a strong understanding of fundamentals and teamwork.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting.
- Experience teaching, coaching, or leading sports programs is highly preferred.
- Ability to create a fun, inclusive, and engaging environment for kids.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and respond to diverse situations with patience and professionalism.
Job Type: Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months
Pay: $400.00-$500.00 per week
