Project Manager – Custom Fabrication
Primary Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- Manage multiple fabrication projects from initial customer inquiry through final completion, ensuring all projects meet scope, schedule, budget, quality, and customer requirements.
- Review customer specifications, drawings, contracts, commercial terms, and delivery requirements to establish project scope and execution plans.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, work plans, budgets, risk assessments, and progress reports.
- Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions to maintain project health.
- Manage project closeout, including as-built documentation, final documentation, and project evaluation.
Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate project status, manage expectations, resolve issues, and coordinate change requests.
- Provide technical support and practical, cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Conduct customer meetings, field measurements, site visits, design reviews, and plant tours as required.
- Manage customer changes, including cost estimates and schedule impact of changes.
- Quote cost of changes and negotiate change order.
- Monitor and control timely invoice in accordance with the purchase order.
Production Coordination
- Coordinate project requirements between Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Quality Control to ensure timely execution.
- Ensure all project documentation, approved drawings, specifications, quality records, and job files are complete and accurate.
- Track material requirements and ensure purchasing activities support production schedules.
- Coordinate and manage subcontracted work, transportation, and supplier activities to meet project deadlines.
Cost, Quality & Compliance
- Monitor project costs, budgets, manpower, materials, and equipment utilization.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable customer specifications, industry codes, and regulatory requirements, including TSSA, ASME, ULC, and other applicable standards.
- Support quality control activities and ensure required inspections and documentation are completed.
- Interface with the customer quality Control and Inspection personnel.
Leadership & Communication
- Communicate project performance regularly to management and during weekly production meetings.
- Collaborate with fellow Project Managers to ensure consistent execution and resource planning.
- Provide guidance and support to project team members and contribute to a safe, productive work environment.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist with detailed drawing coordination to ensure timely completion.
- Maintain organized electronic and paper project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support efficient utilization of labour, materials, equipment, and facility resources.
- Build and maintain long-term customer relationships.
- Pick up leads for future work opportunities.
- Participate in networking opportunities and represent the company professionally.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of Project Management experience in custom steel fabrication, pressure vessel manufacturing, or a related industrial manufacturing environment preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes, including welding, machining, forming, and assembly.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASME, TSSA, ULC, and welding quality requirements.
- Strong customer service, communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, production, purchasing, quality, suppliers, and customers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, ERP systems, and SolidWorks is considered an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and the ability to travel to customer sites and company locations as required.

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
