About this Opportunity:
As the conduit to CPA Ontario’s disciplinary process, the Standards Enforcement team (“SE”) plays a critical role in the assessment and evaluation of complaints of professional misconduct. SE is responsible for reviewing every complaint to ensure that the public can expect effective and efficient regulation of the profession and that members, students and firms who may be subject to a complaint are granted timely due process.
CPA Ontario is currently in search of a proactive, high-performing CPA to join our Standards Enforcement team as a Standards Enforcement Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading preliminary investigations of complaints of professional misconduct, providing technical and investigative assistance on confidential and sensitive regulatory matters as well as collaborating with others to enhance the team’s digitalization efforts. The successful candidate will also participate in and lead strategic projects to support the organization’s regulatory priorities.
What You’ll Be Doing:

Leading preliminary investigations of complaints of professional misconduct made against CPA Ontario members, students and firms. This includes communicating, with complainants and respondents to gather sufficient and appropriate information and supporting documentation about complaints.

Providing technical accounting and assurance subject matter expertise on preliminary investigations of complaints of professional misconduct made against CPA Ontario members, students and firms.

Reviewing materials provided by the parties to a complaint, conducting research, and developing risk-adjusted case plans to gather and process evidence and to assess whether a breach of the CPA Code of Professional Conduct or, as applicable, Student Code of Conduct, may have occurred.

Preparing reports and related document briefs that will be relied upon by the Vice President, Complaints and Investigations, and/or the Professional Conduct Committee in carrying out its respective mandates.

Presenting reports to the Professional Conduct Committee, and responding to questions, as necessary.

Leading and/or participating in special projects and initiatives and liaising with other areas of the organization in support of the organization’s strategic and/or regulatory priorities.

Participating in CPA Ontario committees, working groups and task forces on matters related to or impacting the CPA Code of Professional Conduct or the operations of the Standards Enforcement department.
To Be Successful You Need:

A post-secondary degree, and to have successfully completed the CPA designation and be a member in good standing with CPA Ontario.

Experience in public accounting within a regulatory or compliance environment.

An ability to multi-task and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, while managing a complex, multi-issue and diverse caseload.

To be a proven collaborator and communicator (verbal and written) with excellent interpersonal, public speaking, presentation, and report writing skills.

To be a proactive, self-starter with positive energy and a drive for continuous improvement.

Digital fluency with excellent proficiency using Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Salesforce; a familiarity with Power BI or other data analytics tools is highly preferred.
Salary Range:

The starting annual salary for this position is between $103,700 and $129,600 per annum, based on candidates’ qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
