Position Summary
Medical Laboratory Technologist, Genetics Laboratory
Your goal in this position is to perform laboratory tests and procedures in accordance with departmental and divisional policies. You will perform Molecular laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision. You will have the opportunity to rotate and perform Cytogenetics procedures as needed. You will perform preventive maintenance of equipment. You have the ability to recognize problems and take appropriate action. You are computer proficient, have superior communication and interpersonal skills, and display a high degree of professionalism. You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity and competence. You will provide excellent patient and family- driven care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Perform established Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics laboratory procedures as required
- Review, record, accurately report and check test results in a timely manner
- Recognize abnormal or unusual lab results and take appropriate action according to protocol
- Identify technical or quality process problems and take appropriate corrective action
- Understand and participate in quality control, quality assurance and the quality management system
- Understand, follow and ensure policies/processes/procedures are in compliance with laboratory accreditation requirements
- Work safely in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
- Member of CMLTO or eligible for registration in Genetics (Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics)
- Experience in both Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics an asset
- Bilingualism in French/ English an asset
