Your Opportunity:
The OR Nurse position is responsible for providing perioperative patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with CARNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and CSA standards of practice. The Perioperative Nurse will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of their surgical team. The nurse is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite. The nurse promotes the professional role and evaluates own professional education and clinical practice standards. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The nurse will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes. The nurse is a patient advocate and provides a link between the units and the Operating Room. The Registered Nurse draws on a unique body of nursing knowledge. NOTE: This is not a Perioperative training position.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:
Completed Accredited Perioperative Nursing Course. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team. Demonstrated advanced problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Demonstrated communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. Able to do On-Call/Call back and weekend shifts. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position. Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period of time. Basic computer skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Two (2) years of experience within the last five (5) years in the operating room. Ophthalmology and Urology Surgery Experience. Canadian Perioperative Nursing Certificate (CPNC). Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. PALS desirable. Membership with Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC).
