Recovery Care is seeking a Medical Office Assistant to join our amazing team of healthcare professionals as a Full Time position for our Vanier clinic location in Ottawa. In this dynamic role, the Medical Office Assistant will work in the clinic environment with a team of other Medical Office Assistants, Nurses, Case Managers, and Physicians.
The Medical Office Assistant provides a wide range of both administrative and clinical duties to support the clinic environments, including participation in sample testing and emergency response team services.
General Duties:
- Answering and managing phone calls, and directing them to the appropriate team member as necessary.
- Review and action phone messages.
- Registering and coordination of patient appointments.
- Managing and processing patient records.
- Assist patients in community care/resource navigation.
- Verification of health insurance information and follow-up on health insurance-related tasks.
- Ensure excellent patient flow throughout the clinic space.
- Ensure the office space is well maintained, clean and stocked with supplies necessary to deliver services by coordinating with cleaning services and keeping inventory.
- Maintain safety and functionality of the environment by maintaining cameras, panic buttons and emergency paging systems.
- Process mail, scan documents, faxes, general data entry and filing.
- Liaise with community healthcare and social organizations to ensure provision of excellent patient-centered care.
- Liaise with contractors to ensure an efficiently functional work environment.
- Support staff, medical providers, patients and community partners for just-in-time daily requirements.
Clinical Duties:
- Complete point-of-care diagnostic testing under medical directive.
- Complete clinical screening with patients as necessary under medical directive.
- Participation in emergency response team services.
Experience & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a health care related program preferred
- Previous experience in a medical office setting preferred
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
- Demonstrated ability to work both effectively as a member of a team and independently.
