The role
As a forensic expert, you will be called upon to solve some of the most unique cases in the field of Structural Forensic Engineering. Through a process of investigation and research, the successful candidate will need to understand and identify the causal factors of damage while eliminating other possible causes for residential, commercial, and light industrial claims. The key responsibilities are:
- Perform and manage structural failure investigations and determine root cause of the failure and damage to buildings, foundations, structures, and building envelope mechanisms.
- Attend client meetings and on-site inspections, perform damage surveys and condition assessments.
- Review technical documentation including drawings, standards, codes, regulations, material specifications, maintenance, modification records, etc. Perform Provincial Codes and Standards compliance analysis and reviews.
- Gather evidence and determine circumstances surrounding the incident by capturing data, photographs, videos, and interviewing parties associated with the incident.
- Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court if required.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts on complex investigations.
- Prepare clear and concise reports, from preliminary findings to detailed technical documentation.
- Manage multiple projects while ensuring quality, timelines, and client expectations are met.
- Support and mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
- Participate in business development activities and maintain strong client relationships.
- Always follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.
What you bring to the table
- University degree in Civil / Structural Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license.
- 6+ years of experience in civil & structural (wood, concrete, steel) design, construction, condition assessment, failure investigations and analysis.
- Experience in renovation or repair of existing buildings is considered a strong asset.
- Experience in building condition assessments is considered a strong asset.
- Strong command of both oral and written communication including report writing in English.
- Knowledge of the Construction Codes and Standards.
- Ability to synthesize information, analyze, and solve problems.
- Concern for efficiency, project deliver, attention to detail, and goal achievement.
