Commercial Kitchen Compliance Coordinator – Contract
Our client is looking for an experienced Commercial Kitchen Compliance Coordinator, Restaurant Permit Consultant, or Commercial Kitchen Project Manager to help bring our Coquitlam commercial kitchen into full compliance.
This is a contract/project-based role. We are looking for someone reliable, experienced, and capable of moving the process forward properly. Payment will be provided for approved work completed, but our priority is finding someone who can take ownership of the coordination process, communicate clearly, and help ensure the required steps are completed.
About the Project
Our Coquitlam space was previously approved for bakery use. Since then, the business has expanded into prepared meals, and additional commercial kitchen equipment was installed, including hood/ventilation-related equipment.
At the time the additional equipment and ventilation work was completed, the proper City permit process was not completed. We are now working to correct this properly and bring the premises fully into compliance.
Fraser Health has requested inspection reports from the City of Coquitlam Building Department, Fire Department, and Technical Safety BC before scheduling a health inspection.
We are looking for someone who can review the current setup, identify what permits, inspections, corrections, or professional sign-offs are required, and help coordinate the approval process from start to finish.
We want to handle this transparently and properly with the City, Fire Department, Technical Safety BC, and Fraser Health.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an initial site visit and review the current commercial kitchen setup
- Review the current equipment, hood/ventilation setup, and overall premises layout
- Provide a written deficiency list and clear approval roadmap
- Confirm City of Coquitlam permit, tenant improvement, and business licence requirements
- Help identify what needs to be corrected because the proper permit process was not completed before installation
- Assist with coordination involving the City of Coquitlam, Fire Department, Technical Safety BC, and Fraser Health
- Review or coordinate review of hood, ventilation, fire suppression, gas, electrical, plumbing, and equipment-related requirements
- Identify whether drawings, engineer letters, contractor documentation, or additional inspections are required
- Help coordinate licensed trades, consultants, engineers, or fire suppression contractors where needed
- Assist with organizing inspection reports, equipment details, floor plans, food safety documents, and sanitation documentation
- Support preparation of the final documentation package required for Fraser Health inspection readiness
- Provide regular written updates to ownership
- Keep the process organized and help ensure follow-through on required action items
Ideal Candidate
- Experience with commercial kitchen, restaurant, food premises, commissary kitchen, or tenant improvement approvals
- Familiarity with municipal permitting processes in Metro Vancouver; Coquitlam experience is an asset
- Experience dealing with Fraser Health food premises approvals is strongly preferred
- Understanding of commercial hood/ventilation, fire suppression, gas/electrical, plumbing, and food safety inspection requirements
- Ability to review situations where work may have been completed before the proper permits were in place
- Strong ability to coordinate contractors, engineers, consultants, inspectors, and business owners
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to provide practical written recommendations and keep the process moving
- Reliable, proactive, and able to follow through until items are completed
Requirements
- Relevant experience in commercial kitchen compliance, restaurant permits, tenant improvements, construction/project coordination, or related work
- Ability to attend a site visit in Coquitlam, BC
- Ability to provide a written action plan after the initial review
- Strong knowledge of approval/inspection processes or ability to coordinate with the proper professionals
- Comfortable helping resolve a situation where commercial kitchen work was completed before the proper permit process was finalized
- References are welcome and preferred
Contract length: Approximately 4–12 weeks, depending on City, Fire Department, Technical Safety BC, Fraser Health timelines, and whether corrections, drawings, engineer letters, or additional inspections are required.
We would like to begin with a paid initial site visit and written action plan. If it is a good fit, the role may continue into permit coordination, inspection preparation, and contractor/consultant coordination.
Payment will be provided for approved work completed. Permit fees, engineer fees, drawings, trade work, inspection fees, and correction costs will be separate from the coordinator’s fee and paid directly by ownership unless otherwise agreed in writing.

- A brief summary of your relevant experience
- Examples of similar projects, if available
