Carpenter - Mentor & Trades Trainer, Full-Time
At SkillBridge NB, we believe a trade is a legacy passed hand to hand. We're looking for a skilled, patient Carpenter who doesn't just build with wood and steel, but builds people - someone ready to train the next generation of tradespeople and guide newcomers to the industry from their first cut to their first solo job.
The Opportunity
This role is as much about mentorship as it is about mastery. You'll work on real job sites and in hands-on training settings, teaching foundational and intermediate carpentry skills to newcomers entering the trade - including career-changers, apprentices, and new Canadians building a future in the skilled trades.
What You'll Do
- Lead and mentor newcomers to carpentry, teaching proper technique, tool use, and job-site safety
- Plan and deliver hands-on training exercises alongside live project work
- Model professional standards - craftsmanship, punctuality, and safety-first habits
- Read blueprints and job specs, and walk trainees through the reasoning behind each step
- Provide honest, constructive feedback to help trainees grow into confident tradespeople
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a safe, organized worksite
- Collaborate with SkillBridge NB staff to track trainee progress and readiness
What We're Looking For
- Certified Journeyperson Carpenter (or equivalent trade experience)
- 3+ years of hands-on carpentry experience; residential and/or commercial
- A genuine passion for teaching - patience, clarity, and a mentor's mindset
- Comfort working with newcomers of varying experience and language backgrounds
- Strong communication skills and a calm, encouraging presence on-site
- Valid driver's license; ability to travel between training sites
Why SkillBridge NB
- Be the reason someone finds a lifelong trade and a lifelong career
- Competitive wages, benefits, and paid training time
- A tight-knit team that treats mentorship as core to the job, not extra work
- Room to grow into senior trainer and program-lead roles
