How You’ll Make an Impact
As a Heavy Civil Construction Foreman, you will oversee daily field operations and lead a crew to safely deliver high‑quality work on roads, parking lots, pathways, and municipal infrastructure projects. Working closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent, you will plan work, coordinate resources, maintain productivity, and ensure projects are completed efficiently and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and motivate a crew with clear communication and a strong safety‑first approach
- Use your expertise in roads, parking lots, pathways, and related heavy civil projects to support safe, efficient, and high‑quality construction
- Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in planning the sequence of work based on specifications, drawings, and site conditions
- Coordinate labour, equipment, trucking, and material needs for current and next‑day operations
- Monitor quality, grades, slopes, layout, and production output, making adjustments as needed to maintain project standards
- Ensure work is completed with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Maintain daily logs, production notes, and documentation of any changes or instructions
- Communicate effectively with onsite inspectors, subcontractors, and owners’ representatives
- Work professionally and respectfully while supporting overall crew productivity
- Perform additional related duties as required to support safe, efficient, and continuous construction operations
What You Bring
You are a hands‑on field leader with strong technical knowledge of heavy civil construction, a practical approach to problem solving, and the ability to keep crews organized, motivated, and productive.
Key Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a Foreman or in a similar field leadership role in heavy civil construction
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methods, production processes, and site coordination
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Solid organizational abilities with the ability to multitask and prioritize
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality
- Valid driver’s license
- Relevant safety certifications such as First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, or traffic control training are considered assets
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment
- Eligible to work in Canada
Work Conditions
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Travel to job sites within the Ottawa region is required
- Overtime, weekend, or extended hours may be necessary depending on weather and project timelines
