Qualifications:
We are looking for a passionate Electrical Designer or EIT specializing in power distribution. Experience with BC Hydro distribution / utility design and standards is an asset. Your overall organization, punctuality, involvement and drive to perform will contribute to advancement within our team. You must have a great attitude, a willingness to learn and the following requirements to be considered for the role:
- Over 2 years of relevant electrical design and engineering experience in utility distribution engineering or related industries is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with BC Hydro distribution design and engineering standards is considered an asset.
- In-depth technical knowledge of both overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems, up to and including 35kV.
- Extensive knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code is essential.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and complete assignments on time.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality in all work.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including strong relationship management and interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration within teams and with stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of project lifecycles, including initiation, planning, design, implementation, and closure phases.
- Experience in Project Management is considered an asset.
- Outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with a proven history of applying practical expertise and sound judgment to effectively analyze and resolve complex challenges.
The successful applicant will:
- Undertake designs for underground and overhead medium voltage electrical distribution infrastructure, up to including 35kV.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant BC Hydro standards, including ES43, ES54, ES53, & ES55.
- Utilize distribution design tools such as AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, SPIDACALC, CYMDIST, CYMCAP, CYMTCC, ETAP and MS Office.
- Conduct electrical studies such as grounding studies, load flow, voltage drop, pull calculation, fault analysis, and arc-flash assessments.
- Coordinate design and construction activities with customers, contractors, electrical inspectors, municipal authorities, utilities, and other project stakeholders.
- Conduct site visits before, during and after construction.
- Prepare project construction estimates.
