Position Summary
Collective Waste Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated General Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong analytical skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced, multi-location environment. Reporting to the Divisional Controller, the successful candidate will work alongside a team of General Accountants to support the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the company's financial operations.
Role Overview
The General Accountant will play a key role in accuracy and completeness of financial transactions and audit support functions. This role requires a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a multi-location operating environment.
Key Results
Financial Operations
- Assist in reconciling month end balance sheet accounts.
- Assist in ensuring expenses are coded accurately and in compliance with organizational policy. Follow-up with vendors when required and assist in payment processing.
- Prepare monthly credit card reconciliations and ensure they are aligned with company policies and have supporting documentation.
- Assist with the filing of monthly GST returns.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate client invoices and follow-up on outstanding AR balances.
- Assist with finance special projects, as required.
- Work with the Divisional Controller to prepare monthly reporting and provide operational reporting, as needed.
- Assist with the external audit processes, including preparing working papers for the auditors.
- Provide coverage for other team members while away in order to ensure continuous business operations.
- Ensure historical accounting records are maintained in an organized and retrievable format.
- Errors or inefficiencies in spending, reporting, or processes are proactively identified and brought forward for improvement.
Leadership & People
- Finance procedures and internal controls are followed rigorously across all areas of responsibility, with any gaps or risks flagged.
- Confidentiality of financial and organizational information is maintained to the highest standards.
- Consistent support is provided to the Divisional Controller to meet financial reporting deadlines and ad hoc requests.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or relevant prior working experience.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years demonstrated full-cycle accounting experience in an accounting capacity.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (prior Sage experience would be an asset).
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment.
