To assist in the development and implementation of skill based, recreational, and educational food outreach programs to assist community members with achieving food prosperity in the Glen Cairn and Pond Mills neighbourhoods and surrounding areas.
- Reporting to Supervisor/designate, assist with the development, implementation, facilitation and supervision of activities for residents including garden restoration, growing food, and preserving produce;
- Implementing community fresh food depots and market;
- Research area foods and growing seasons for community members to implement in gardening program;
- Creating food hampers with healthy recipes and cost-effectiveness menu plans
- Ensure the facility, properties, activity areas, equipment and supplies used for the program are , prepared, secure and clean;
- Promotion of all Centre wide programs and events and recruitment of participants;
- Overseeing program day to day, ensuring organization and smooth operations of programming;
- Collaborating with team members, and ensuring everyone works as a team;
- Collect information and or surveys from community members on how we can provide better services;
- Maintain records of attendance, program activities, and safety checks;
- Act as an appropriate/positive role model for area residents;
- Liaise with community, volunteers, youth and area partners to promote program activities and events;
- Participate in relevant staff training, staff meetings and prepare all appropriate paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Candidates must be 18 – 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Six months to one year of job related experience preferred;
- Some secondary education in a human care area of study ( SSW, Community Development, BSW etc.) an asset or two years of community college preferred;
- Must have a Current CPR and First Aid or a willingness to obtain PRIOR to start date – MANDATORY;
- Must have a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) prior to start date - MANDATORY
- Previous experience with diverse populations;
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to follow direction and work as a team member;
- Ability to speak French, Spanish, or Arabic would be an asset;
- Driver’s license and reliable vehicle mandatory.
