WSG Energy Services is looking for Electrical Commissioning Supervisors to join their team in British Columbia.
The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities. This role ensures that electrical systems and projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. The supervisor leads a team of electricians and technicians while coordinating with engineering, operations, and project management.
The Electrical Commissioning Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all electrical and control system commissioning activities to ensure systems are installed, tested, and operating safely and in compliance with project specifications and industry standards prior to handover.
Job Responsibilities
Supervision & Team Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of electricians and electrical technicians.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical guidance.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate team members.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and safety procedures.
Electrical Installation & Commissioning
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
- Coordinate Package SAT, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities with vendors and construction teams.
- Comply with site LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and SIMOPS procedures.
- Drive electrical activities to meet project schedules.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance schedules are followed.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and ensure timely resolution.
- Review electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety regulations, OSHA/WCB requirements, and electrical codes (NEC, IEC, etc.).
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safe work practices.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
Project Management & Coordination
- Plan and manage electrical projects from initiation to completion.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, engineers, contractors, and other departments.
- Track project progress, schedules, and costs.
- Ensure availability of materials, tools, and resources.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Prepare reports on system performance and project status.
- Update electrical drawings and documentation as required.
Systems & Compliance Oversight
- Ensure all safety systems (ESD, F&G) are operational and properly tested.
- Lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Ensure employees understand their responsibilities and authorities related to company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent technical experience.
- Field Safety Representative (FSR – Class A) certification issued by Technical Safety BC (TSBC).
- Electrical Contractor License (Red Seal).
- Completion of Electrical Code course, including:
- High Voltage (HV) Switching Certification / Authorization
- Arc Flash / Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- The following certifications are considered beneficial:
- WorkSafeBC Supervisor Safety Training
- First Aid Certification
- Journeyman Electrician Certification
- Five (5+) years of demonstrated experience in Electrical Commissioning Supervision within the EPCI industry.
- Strong knowledge of commissioning processes and procedures, including experience managing commissioning work packs from initiation through to handover.
- Familiarity with industry regulations, standards, and codes applicable to electrical commissioning activities.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and commissioning management systems.
