Voyageur Quest is a year-round wilderness tour company specializing in Algonquin Park experiences. Our off-grid facilities include the Algonquin Log Cabin, Algonquin Cottage Outpost, Algonquin Island Retreat, and Voyageur Outfitter, all located in the northwest region of Algonquin Park.
This is a hands-on Camp Chef role in a true wilderness setting—ideal for someone who enjoys cooking, organization, teamwork, and working in nature with guests and outdoor professionals.
THE ROLE
The Algonquin Wilderness Cook / Camp Chef supports primarily the Algonquin Log Cabin (serving groups of 6–18), as well as the Outfitter, Broken Paddle Patio (breakfasts and BBQs), Cottage operations, special events, and school programs.
This is a multi-responsibility kitchen role combining:
- cooking and meal preparation
- kitchen coordination and inventory support
- guest-facing food service in an open-kitchen environment
- dietary planning and special meal management
- ordering and basic supply coordination
You will work closely with wilderness guides and staff in a small, collaborative team environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, cook, and serve meals for lodge guests and program participants
- Accommodate dietary needs (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, allergies, etc.) at every meal
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen in an open guest-facing environment
- Coordinate meal planning using digital menu planning and ordering systems
- Place and manage online food orders across multiple suppliers
- Maintain inventory and assist with food logistics
- Work collaboratively with wilderness guides and staff (including shared cleanup duties)
- Ensure food safety standards and kitchen procedures are followed at all times
- Proactively identify and resolve kitchen and service challenges
- Contribute to a positive, welcoming guest experience through food and interaction
- Support ongoing kitchen maintenance and operational cleanliness
QUALIFICATIONS
- Safe Food Handler’s Certificate (required)
- Minimum High School Diploma
- Minimum 2 years of relevant cooking experience
- Strong experience with special diets considered an asset
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organization and ability to manage multiple tasks in a small team environment
- Comfort working in a remote, off-grid wilderness setting
- Email and phone required for coordination
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for days off
- Culinary training or cook certification considered an asset
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening)
SEASONAL CONTRACT OPTIONS
- May to early September
- May to mid-October
- Optional winter season (December–March) for returning staff
COMPENSATION
$24–$26/hour (commensurate with experience)
- Additional income through direct guest tipping
- Free shared staff cabin accommodation provided
- Meals/food access may be provided depending on operational schedule
