At Trade Winds to Success Training Society, our mission is to empower Indigenous individuals in Alberta to begin careers in the construction trades by providing comprehensive and supportive pre-trades training. We are currently seeking individuals interested in a one+ year contract to facilitate academic and work-readiness preparation for participants in our Outreach programs.
Each year, we anticipate offering 4-6 Outreach programs, which will take place across various locations in Alberta, providing an opportunity to work in diverse communities and assist individuals in their journey toward successful trades careers.
The primary focus of the role is to prepare participants for careers in the trades through the delivery of math and science instruction (grade 9-10 level), employability development, and life skills workshops that address individual learning and workforce readiness needs. Facilitators will be key in creating an inclusive, encouraging environment that fosters success and growth.

In line with our mission, we actively collaborate with funders and various stakeholders to engage program participants. The responsibilities include:
- Facilitating classes in grade 9-10 level math and science using the established Trade Winds curriculum to help students pass their apprenticeship entrance exam.
- Facilitating workshops focused on career skills development, including resume writing, job search strategies, interview preparation, and job retention strategies, with a focus on employment in the skilled trades.
- Offering tutoring support to students who need additional assistance.
- Preparing and printing lesson materials ahead of each class.
- Recording daily attendance and collaborating with the Student Services Manager to identify at-risk students or areas of concern and documenting all student matters that require attention.
- Recording and tabulating student marks and sending required data for client hard copy and digital files to the Program Assistant.
- Participating in weekly meetings and providing feedback on student-related matters.
- Acting as a proxy between the Student Services Manager and the students and/or community staff to address attendance or other barriers affecting student progress.
- Ensuring that certificates and safety tickets collected from students are forwarded to the Program Assistant for inclusion in hard copy and digital files.
- Assisting students to register for entrance exams, apprenticeships, and other activities.
- Meeting students at the respective AIT office on exam days to assist them in finding the testing site.
- Collecting all AIT entrance exam results and forwarding them to the Program Assistant for filing and recordkeeping, along with any emails for student.
- Working with other Trade Winds staff to ensure successful delivery of the program.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Excellent instructional and facilitation abilities.
- Proficient in applying adult learning principles in teaching.
- Dedicated to inspiring and supporting Indigenous individuals in achieving success in the trades.
- Strong computer proficiency.
- Capable of collaborating effectively while working in various communities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two to three years of experience working with Indigenous groups is required.
- Two years of experience in teaching/tutoring junior high to high school math or science lessons is preferred.
- A degree or diploma in Education is preferred.
- A reliable vehicle, as travel to various communities is required for durations of 6 weeks.
REMUNERATION:
The pay rate for this role ranges from $36 to $40 per hour, with a standard 40-hour work week.
When projects require travel outside one’s local greater metropolitan area, accommodations for travel are handled by Trade Winds to Success, and mileage and meals are reimbursed according to the Travel Directive of the National Joint Council, which is currently:
- $0.59/km travelled
- $121.25/day for meals
