Who We Are Looking For:
The Manager, Governance, Controls & Data Engineering is a hands-on technical leader at the centre of the Credit Operations data and analytics ecosystem. This role is responsible for building, governing, and optimizing the data assets that power collections strategy, risk management, forecasting, reporting, and operational decision-making.
As the owner of Credit Operations' analytical data environment, you will design and maintain scalable data pipelines, curated datasets, and reusable data products within the Databricks Lakehouse platform. You will serve as the bridge between business stakeholders, Technology teams, Data Engineering, and Analytics, ensuring that data is accurate, governed, well-documented, and fit for purpose.
In addition to supporting governance and control initiatives, you will help define the future state of the Credit Operations data ecosystem by improving data reliability, enabling self-service analytics, and establishing scalable data architecture that supports growing business demands. You will partner closely with Credit Risk, Fraud, Collections, Finance, Bank, Technology, and Data Engineering teams to bring new analytical capabilities into production.
This role is ideal for a technically strong individual who enjoys solving complex data challenges, optimizing large-scale datasets, designing modern data models, and translating business requirements into scalable solutions.
Experience with Databricks Lakehouse architecture, Delta Sharing, Unity Catalog, and modern data-sharing frameworks supporting Telecom-Bank integration initiatives is considered a strong asset.
What You Will Do
Data Engineering & Analytics Platform Development
Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and curated datasets within the Databricks Lakehouse platform.
Provide guidance on development and management of Bronze, Silver, and Gold layer data assets while ensuring adherence to data engineering, governance, and quality standards.
Create reusable data products and curated datasets that support reporting, predictive analytics, forecasting, collections strategy, and operational decision-making.
Optimize SQL and Databricks workloads for performance, scalability and maintainability.
Design and maintain robust data models that enable self-service analytics and reduce duplication of business logic across reporting solutions.
Guide the team on best practises in defining and documenting business rules, transformations, lineage, ownership, and metadata for critical analytical assets.
Partner with Technology and Data Engineering teams to onboard new data sources and enable secure data-sharing capabilities across Telecom and Bank environments.
Contribute to architectural discussions involving data integration, Delta Sharing, governance, access management, and Lakehouse design.
Governance, Controls & Risk Management
Support the development and maintenance of governance and control frameworks that ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Conduct ongoing/adhoc assessments of operational processes, data controls, and reporting environments to identify and mitigate risks.
Establish validation and monitoring processes to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across analytical platforms.
Analytics & Business Enablement
Utilize SQL, Python, Databricks, and visualization tools like Powebi to deliver data-driven insights and recommendations.
Partner with business stakeholders to understand analytical requirements and translate them into scalable, production-ready data solutions.
Support KPI development, performance monitoring, collections strategy evaluation, forecasting, and operational effectiveness measurement.
Identify opportunities to improve business processes through automation, analytics, and improved data accessibility.
Provide technical leadership and support for complex analytical initiatives and ad hoc business requests.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders across Collections, Credit Risk, Fraud, Finance, Technology, and Bank teams.
Lead efforts to improve data accessibility, documentation, discoverability, and governance practices.
Promote best practices related to data engineering, analytics, governance, and quality management.
Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance analytical capabilities across Credit Operations.
What You Will Bring
Core Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex query development, performance tuning, and optimization of large-scale analytical workloads.
Strong programming skills in Python for analytical processing, automation, and data engineering applications.
Hands-on experience using Databricks as a primary analytics and data engineering platform.
Experience designing, building, and supporting scalable data pipelines and data processing frameworks.
Strong understanding of Lakehouse architecture concepts including Bronze, Silver, and Gold layer design.
Experience working with Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Delta Sharing, and modern data integration approaches is considered an asset.
Ability to collaborate effectively with Data Engineers, Architects, Technology teams, and business stakeholders on platform integration and data architecture decisions.
Data Modelling & Data Quality Mindset
Experience designing and maintaining curated analytical datasets and data products that are structured, governed, documented, and easy for analysts to consume.
Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, analytical data design, and data consumption patterns.
Experience managing data lineage, metadata, source-to-target mapping, and business logic documentation.
Strong focus on data quality, validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and controls.
Proven ability to create scalable, reusable datasets that support multiple reporting and analytical use cases.
Analytics & Business Acumen
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Understanding of statistical concepts, analytical methodologies, and data-driven decision-making.
Experience developing or supporting predictive, forecasting, risk, or operational analytics solutions.
Excellent communication skills with experience in explaining technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting cross-functional data-sharing initiatives between multiple business units or technology platforms.
