Job Summary
Steamworks North Shore is looking for a Restaurant Shift Leader to join our kitchen team. This unique opportunity involves making amazing dishes in a fast pace and high quality restaurant. We are looking for a dynamic kitchen team members that will facilitate a fun, organized, spotless kitchen that produces amazing food. The Restaurant Team members must have a great positive attitude to work with both Front of house and Kitchen Team members to ensure our guests have the best possible experience every time they visit us.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Kitchen Operations Management Lead and coordinate all back-of-house activities during service and prep periods Ensure smooth execution of service with strong ticket flow management and timing
Monitor station readiness, prep levels, and cleanliness throughout the shift Step into stations as needed to support service during high-volume periods
2. Food Quality & Consistency Enforce recipe standards, portion control, and plating specifications Conduct quality checks on dishes before they leave the kitchen
Ensure all food is prepared and stored in compliance with food safety regulations Address and correct quality issues in real time
3. Team Leadership & Supervision Direct, coach, and support kitchen staff to maintain high performance Delegate tasks effectively based on team strengths and service demands
Train new team members on procedures, standards, and expectations Foster a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented work environment
4. Health & Safety Compliance Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas
Conduct line checks, temperature logs, and sanitation procedures Address safety hazards immediately and enforce proper protocols
5. Inventory & Prep Control Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages or needs Oversee prep lists and ensure completion before service Minimize waste through proper handling, rotation (FIFO), and portioning Assist with ordering and stock management as required
6. Communication & Coordination Act as the main point of contact between BOH and FOH during shifts Communicate delays, 86’d items, and service updates clearly Report shift performance, issues, and incidents to management
7. Opening & Closing Responsibilities Execute opening and closing checklists accurately Ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained and shut down Secure inventory and maintain standards for next shift readiness
Education and Experience Required
- Food Safe Certification
- Experience in a kitchen
- First Aid Level 1 (an asset)
