Job Summary
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Workers to provide essential assistance to individuals with disabilities and dual diagnosis,. This role involves supporting individuals in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring their safety and well-being.
Similar job titles include Support Worker, Residential Support Worker, Developmental Support Worker (DSW), Developmental Services Worker and Personal Support Worker (PSW).
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
- Provide medication administration and monitor health conditions as required
- Prepare meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with feeding if necessary
- Support clients with dementia or cognitive impairments through engaging activities and supervision
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks including cleaning and maintaining a safe environment
- Help clients with mobility and transfer techniques, including heavy lifting when needed
- Document care provided and communicate effectively with healthcare teams or family members
- Support clients in community outings or recreational activities to promote social engagement
- Follow care plans and safety protocols to ensure client safety at all times
- Support adults with intellectual disabilities with their daily living and activities.
- Effectively interact and problem solve with people we support, demonstrating empathy, genuineness and respect.
- Act from the basis of always considering the person’s best interests first.
- Review communication notes, medication sheets and all pertinent information at the beginning of shift.
- Maintain clear, concise and accurate communication logs, shift outlines, reports, etc.
- Be knowledgeable of and follow any guidelines in place regarding behavioural needs and approaches.
- Ensure that people supported are appropriately dressed and groomed for the time of day, time of year and social circumstances.
- Complete all required chores/tasks as indicated on the Day/Night Shift outline, complete all documentation.
- Cook/prepare nutritious snacks and meals following planned menus.
- Respect and maintain the confidentiality of all work related information.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in assisted living, nursing home, hospice care, mental health, or home care preferred
- Experience working with people with disabilities or older adults is highly desirable
- Knowledge of dementia care, medication administration, and patient care best practices
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and assist with mobility support safely
- Strong caregiving skills with compassion, patience, and excellent communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Developmental Services Worker Diploma, Social Services Worker Diploma, Personal Support Worker or other similar educational backgrounds.
- Experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities would be considered an asset
- A Valid G Driver’s License is required
- Emergency First Aid (Level A) is required before working first shift
- Vulnerable Person Criminal Record Check (updated within the last 6 months) is required
- CPI Certification would be considered an asset
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills
- Computer skills
Candidates who do not hold a DSW diploma may be considered if they have a Diploma (minimum 2 year program) or Degree from a recognized Community College/University in Social/Human Services.
A minimum of two years’ previous experience supporting people with a developmental disability, mental illness or Dual Diagnosis
- Valid driver’s license needed for community outings or transportation assistance

Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour
