AK Brown Ltd. is seeking a self-led and highly accountable Welding Supervisor / Lead Welder to help grow our fabrication and welding repair department.
This is currently a small department with one person, but we see strong opportunity to expand. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the department, improving systems, supporting compliance, and helping build a reliable welding and fabrication team over time.
The position is based out of a first-class shop environment equipped with an overhead crane, proper ventilation, and professional tooling. Work will include shop fabrication, welding repairs, field support, and limited plant shutdown work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform welding, fabrication, and repair work in the shop and field.
- Support the growth and development of the welding and fabrication department.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality.
- Maintain compliance with CWB and ABSA requirements.
- Support welding procedures, welder qualifications, material traceability, inspections, and documentation.
- Review drawings, repair scopes, and fabrication requirements.
- Coordinate materials, consumables, equipment, and job planning.
- Mentor and develop future welders as the department grows.
- Support emergency repairs, plant shutdowns, weekends, and after-hours work when required.
Required Qualifications
- Strong welding, fabrication, and repair experience.
- Competence with CWB and ABSA compliance.
- Ability to read drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
- Strong understanding of welding procedures and quality requirements.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the department.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and after-hours when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyperson Welder certification.
- CWB Supervisor qualification or ability to obtain.
- Pressure welding or B-pressure experience.
- Experience with pressure piping, mechanical contracting, field repairs, or shutdown work.
- Forklift, rigging, or overhead crane experience.
