Construction Manager
Duration: Sept 2026 - March 2029 approximatly
Schedule: Working 5 days a week. Weekend work may be required during commissioning. 8-hour days occasionally will increase to 10hrs/day.
Per Diem available up to $250/day based on distance from home. To be negotiated on a case by case basis.
OT Paid at 1.5x over 44hrs/week
An on-site Construction Manager will be required to support the construction and commissioning of the Terminal Extension and STATCOM project. The Construction Manager is responsible for planning and executing work at the construction site. This includes managing all site activities, conducting site meetings and regular reporting to the Project Manager. The Construction Manager will be mobilized to site for initial site improvements beginning in October 2026. Major construction activities are planned to commence in April 2027 and will continue through to the winter of 2028.
Project Background
As part of Dynamic Reactive Support project, our client will be expanding the 345kV yard at the Salisbury Terminal and installing the new STATCOM and Transformers. Our client will supervise the construction contracts for civil work including:
- Site improvements (2026)
- New foundations, steel structures, trenching, breakers, PTs, CTs, switches, tiebus, etc. for the terminal extension at Salisbury Terminal (2027)
- New foundations, steel structures, buildings, trenching, transformer install, breakers, for the STATCOM (2028)
- Commissioning for the Terminal Extension and STATCOM (2028)
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee all on-site construction activities related to the project. (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical)
- Coordinate construction efforts between NB Power stakeholders and contractors to ensure alignment and efficiency.
- Chair a weekly on-site construction meeting with all relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and issue a weekly construction report summarizing field activities, progress, and key issues for distribution by the Project Manager.
- Promote and maintain strong communication across all site personnel and project stakeholders.
- Identify, escalate, and support resolution of issues, risks, and safety concerns to the Project Manager on time.
- Promote a positive and respectful work environment aligned with NB Power core values.
Required Skills and Experience
- Direct Construction Manager experience for major size projects involving civil and electrical work
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in a leadership role within construction projects.
- A minimum of eight (8) years’ field experience in an industrial environment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.
- Proficiency in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel).
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Well-developed interpersonal skills are necessary in order to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing requirements to a wide range of client groups (internal and external).
- Skilled in coaching of co-workers and contractors, negotiation, mediation of disputes or differences of opinion and conflict resolution.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently or in a team environment and provide leadership, support, direction, and consultation to a wide range of people.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives with strong organizational skills to meet project deadlines.
- Willing to travel, participate in activities, network and build relationships.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to organize, analyze and report on various parameters and data sets.
- Ability to learn to use new tools and adapt existing tools to the task at hand.
- The ability to communicate in both English and French would be considered an asset.
- Ability to proactively detect challenges to safety, quality, cost and schedule that will ensure development and execution of effective prevention, mitigation, or corrective actions.
