Job Overview
The_ Automotive Parts Associate_ works in a fast-paced retail environment, assisting customers both in person and over the phone. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, helping customers find the right automotive parts using computerized lookup systems, and coordinating with suppliers to source products. The associate is also responsible for maintaining store operations, including stocking shelves, managing inventory, and ensuring the automotive section is organized and up to date.
Responsibilities
Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a strong commitment to meeting the needs of customers and their vehicles.
- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner, maintaining eye contact and a positive attitude.
- Assist customers by directing them to the location of requested items within the store.
- Answer customer questions and provide knowledgeable advice on products and services.
- Recommend value-added and related products to ensure customers have everything they need.
- Respond to customer inquiries, requests, and concerns in a timely and professional manner, both in person and over the phone.
- Assist multiple customers efficiently while maintaining service quality.
- Handle challenging customer situations calmly and professionally.
- Stay up to date on in-store promotions, deals, automotive center specials, and product locations.
Operations:
- Source and order automotive parts for customers through authorized suppliers.
- Follow established procedures for ordering and selling parts to customers and the Service Department.
- Process returns, warranties, and core returns as required.
- Test and fill batteries; test starters and alternators; operate battery filling equipment according to training and safety procedures.
- Ensure retail basic tasks are completed efficiently, including stocking, labeling, and facing merchandise.
- Stock shelves and maintain merchandise displays according to modules and planograms.
- Regularly walk assigned sections to identify and complete daily tasks and priorities.
- Maintain inventory accuracy and report low stock levels through hole checks and bin cap analysis.
- Locate and retrieve products from the warehouse as needed.
- Operate computer systems and electronic devices, entering required codes into store systems.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions and apply feedback to improve performance.
- Follow company, store, department, and Automotive Service Centre policies and procedures.
- Comply with health and safety regulations and report hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills
- Must have 1 to 2 years Automotive Service experience, either in a retail automotive environment or service center.
- Must have knowledge in Co-Star or another form of automotive service system.
- Working knowledge of automotive parts lookup systems.
- Automotive trade education also considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of automotive parts and a strong interest in the automotive industry.
- Basic math skills and proficient typing/data entry skills.
- Ability to operate a cash register (considered an asset).
- Ability to work independently with computerized systems and minimal supervision.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
In compliance with the store’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures:
- Stand and walk for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Lift and carry merchandise on a regular and unassisted basis; items may range from light to heavy.
- Perform frequent lifting and turning throughout the shift.
- Lift items from floor to waist, floor to shoulder, and above shoulder height.
- Climb up and down ladders while carrying merchandise.
- Walk while carrying items and perform pushing and pulling as required.
- Perform repetitive movements including twisting, turning, and reaching, including work above shoulder level.
