Housing and Cultural Pathway Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Housing and Cultural Pathway Coordinator (delivers culturally grounded, Housing First aligned supports to Indigenous individuals experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk. This role integrates housing support with land-based cultural programming to promote long-term housing stability, prevention of returns to homelessness, and improved wellness outcomes.
Rooted in Indigenous culture and guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, the position recognizes connection to land, culture, identity, and community as critical protective factors in sustaining housing and supporting healing.
Responsibilities:
Land-Based Cultural Supports (Protective & Stabilizing Factors)
· Develop and deliver land-based programming for unhoused and recently housed Indigenous clients.
· Facilitate activities such as harvesting, hunting, trapping, snowshoeing, traditional food preparation, and seasonal teachings.
· Coordinate at least one quarterly land-based cultural gathering to strengthen identity, belonging, and community connection.
· Work alongside Elders and Knowledge Keepers to ensure adherence to cultural protocols.
· Integrate ceremony and cultural practices (as appropriate and requested) into housing transitions to support healing and stability.
· Document cultural teachings and ceremony protocols in accordance with community guidance.
Housing Support, Stabilization & Reporting (Reaching Home Aligned)
· Provide flexible, client-driven housing support consistent with Housing First principles.
· Support clients through assessments, applications, referrals, and coordinated access processes.
· Maintain partnerships with landlords and housing providers in collaboration with the Housing Navigator to increase housing options.
· Assist clients with viewings, interviews, rapid placement, and move-in supports.
· Advocate to reduce systemic and cultural barriers to housing access.
· Deliver ongoing, culturally safe follow-up supports to promote housing stability.
· Conduct regular check-ins to reduce isolation and strengthen retention.
· Support rent payment systems, budgeting, and access to income and community resources.
· Identify and address early risks to tenancy, mediate landlord-tenant conflicts, and implement eviction prevention strategies to reduce returns to homelessness.
· Maintain accurate case documentation and track outcomes including housing placements, retention, eviction prevention, returns to homelessness, and participation in cultural programming.
· Contribute to performance measurement and reporting requirements under Reaching Home.
Qualifications
· Strong knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices, land-based traditions, and protocols.
· Demonstrated connection to Indigenous community; lived experience considered an asset.
· Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
· Knowledge of Housing First, trauma-informed practice, and harm reduction principles.
· Experience in housing placement, retention support, and eviction prevention.
· Strong facilitation, mediation, and documentation skills.
· Ability to work outdoors in varying seasonal conditions.
· Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Community Development, or related field; OR
· Equivalent combination of education lived experience, and community-based leadership.
