Glen Abbey Montessori School is looking for a warm, energetic, dependable, and caring Classroom Assistant & Aftercare Supervisor to support our Montessori teachers in creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment for children aged 2½–7 years.
This is a hands-on position that combines childcare, classroom support, aftercare supervision, and maintaining a clean, organized Montessori environment. Every day is different, and we are looking for someone who enjoys working with young children, takes initiative, and is happy to jump in wherever support is needed.

Position Overview
As a Classroom Assistant, you will play an important role in the daily life of our Montessori classrooms. Working alongside our teaching team, you will help support children's daily routines, encourage independence, supervise aftercare, assist with classroom preparation, and ensure our learning environment remains clean, safe, and organized.

Key ResponsibilitiesChild Care & Classroom Support
- Build positive relationships with children while supporting their emotional, social, and physical well-being.
- Assist children with toileting, handwashing, dressing, and other personal care routines as required.
- Support children during daily transitions, including arrival, circle time, outdoor play, washroom routines, meals, rest time, and specialty activities.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play while ensuring their safety at all times.
- Assist children during lunch and snack times by opening containers, cutting food, encouraging independence, and monitoring food intake when required.
- Support educators in maintaining a calm, respectful, and positive Montessori classroom.
- Prepare classroom materials and learning spaces for daily activities.
- Assist with setting up and putting away nap equipment, bedding, cots, and classroom materials.
- Support our aftercare program by supervising children, organizing activities, and creating a warm, welcoming environment at the end of the school day.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for children throughout the day.
- Clean and sanitize tables, classroom materials, washrooms, toys, and high-touch surfaces in accordance with school policies and Ministry requirements.
- Disinfect toilet seats, faucets, door handles, and surrounding washroom areas using approved sanitizing products.
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, toilet paper, and other hygiene supplies daily.
- Follow all health, safety, sanitation, and infection-prevention procedures.
- Report any health, safety, maintenance, or supply concerns to administration promptly.
Food Service Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and serving meals and snacks.
- Support children during meal times while encouraging independence and good table manners.
- Maintain food preparation and serving areas in accordance with food safety standards.
- Complete daily food temperature logs as required by Public Health.
- Load, unload, and maintain the dishwasher throughout the day.
- Prepare and serve afternoon snacks for the aftercare program.
Classroom & Environment Maintenance
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of classrooms, lunch areas, washrooms, storage rooms, and common spaces.
- Sweep and tidy floors as needed throughout the day.
- Organize bookshelves, learning materials, classroom resources, and storage areas.
- Assist with classroom opening and end-of-day closing routines.
- Help ensure classrooms remain beautiful, organized, and ready for learning each day.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with children and has experience in a childcare or educational setting.
Experience in any of the following is considered an asset:
- Montessori classroom experience
- Licensed childcare or daycare
- Preschool programs
- Camp counsellor experience
- Educational Assistant (EA)
- Early Childhood Assistant (ECA)
- Nanny or babysitting experience
- Recreation or children's programming

Requirements
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Up-to-date immunization records
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Positive, patient, nurturing, and professional approach with children, families, and colleagues
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Physically able to lift, bend, kneel, stand for extended periods, and actively participate throughout the school day
