Job Overview
We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented accounting professional with a minimum of five years of experience, preferably within the construction industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the company's accounting functions, financial reporting, project costing, cash flow management, and overall financial administration.finance, account reconciliation, and payroll management, with a focus on maintaining compliance and accuracy across all financial activities.
This role requires a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, progress billing, subcontractor management, and project budget tracking. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and capable of providing valuable financial insights to support business growth and decision-making.
Duties
- Manage the full-cycle accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of all financial records.
- Monitor project budgets, job costs, and profitability across multiple construction projects.
- Track project expenditures, subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and progress billings.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities.
- Prepare and submit HST/GST returns and other regulatory filings.
- Support year-end financial reviews and coordinate with external accountants and auditors.
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Assist senior management with financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience.
- Previous experience in the construction industry is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, project budgeting, work-in-progress reporting, and progress billing.
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or CPA candidate status is considered a strong asset.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar ERP systems.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience preparing financial analyses and reports.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
