Position Summary
The Group Facilitator reports to the Program Supervisor and is responsible for facilitating group programs within the community through various delivery methods. The Group Facilitator demonstrates an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and its impact on individuals, families, and relationships, while supporting participants through a trauma-informed and client-centered approach.
The incumbent facilitates group sessions, ensures program curriculum objectives are met, provides crisis intervention and client support when required, and maintains accurate administrative records in accordance with Agency policies and funding requirements.
This is a casual position requiring flexibility to support groups, including evening and weekend availability, as required. The hourly rate for this position is $28.67 – $30.58 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
Group Facilitation and Client Support
- Facilitate group programs and ensure program curriculum objectives are achieved.
- Manage group dynamics and provide crisis intervention and support to individual clients when required.
- Provide supportive remote and/or in-person crisis intervention for clients enrolled in the program.
- Refer clients to appropriate Agency programs, professionals, community services, and other resources as needed.
- Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive group environment using trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and client-centered approaches.
Administration
- Prepare, compile, submit, and maintain accurate client records, files, statistics, and other required documentation in accordance with Agency policies and funding requirements.
- Complete client session notes and group attendance records in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate database information and share required information with the administration team.
Other
- Participate in Agency activities, meetings, training courses, and events as required.
- Participate in Agency fundraising activities as deemed appropriate by Management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Travel may be required to attend meetings, groups, presentations, workshops, trainings, and community events.
- Respond to enquiries from clients, community members, and stakeholders.
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
- Work involves multiple priorities and interaction with diverse stakeholders.
- Work may involve both in-person and virtual service delivery.
Physical Requirements
- The position requires extended periods of sitting and use of office equipment and computer systems.
- Occasional light to moderate lifting (up to 25 lbs.) of supplies and materials may be required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Community College Diploma, or related human service field with two (2) years of relevant work experience preferred.
- Experience facilitating groups, providing counselling support, or delivering psycho-education programs is preferred.
- Registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or another relevant regulated professional body is required.
- Experience working with individuals impacted by domestic violence, mental health concerns, homelessness, or substance use challenges is an asset.
- Knowledge of counselling, social work principles, and group facilitation practices.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations through an intersectional, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive lens.
- Knowledge and experience utilizing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques; Crisis Prevention/Intervention training is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with co-facilitators, clients, and community partners.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in French and/or additional languages is considered an asset, particularly South Asian languages such as Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi.
- Strong computer skills, including virtual service delivery platforms and database management systems.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check is required.
- Satisfactory professional references are required as part of the recruitment process.
- Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance coverage.
