South Country Co-op is hiring a friendly and customer-focused Meat Clerk to join our team at 13th Ave Food Store in Medicine Hat, AB.. If you’re passionate about providing exceptional customer experiences, we’d love to hear from you!
Reporting to the Meat Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering outstanding customer service while assisting with the packaging, pricing, merchandising, and display of meat, poultry, and seafood products. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced retail environment, take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and are committed to providing a positive customer experiences. Retail experience, specifically in a meat or deli department is preferred. South Country Co-op is willing to provide Meat Cutter training to individuals interested in advancement within the department.
Key Responsibilties:
- Deliver exceptional customer service and provide product knowledge, including cooking and preparation recommendations.
- Maintain attractive, well-stocked displays of fresh, smoked, frozen, and value-added meat products.
- Wrap, weigh, label, and price meat products accurately for sale.
- Assist in the preparation of value-added products, including sausage and hamburger patties.
- Support inventory management through stock replenishment, inventory counts, product rotation, and reporting out-of-stock items or customer requests.
- Monitor product quality, markdowns, shrinkage, and spoilage to support department operations.
- Receive, inspect, and properly store product deliveries in accordance with food safety and temperature-control requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized department, including displays, coolers, freezers, equipment, and storage areas.
- Ensure all food safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures are followed at all times.
- Assist the Meat Manager with daily department operations and contribute to the overall success of the team.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent; or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of ordering and receiving procedures desired
- High level of integrity and work ethic
- Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment
- Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment

Work Schedule:
This position requires full availability, including days, evenings, and weekends, early morning.
