Indigenous Relations Specialist - Strategy & Negotiations

Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00
What you'll do
As a professional member of the Strategy & Negotiations team in Indigenous Relations (IR), the successful candidate will
manage a number of projects of moderate size, diversity, complexity and risk and assume responsibility for their successful
completion. The projects will be diverse but they will typically involve addressing specific Indigenous issues or departmental
goals. The successful applicant will work with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the IR leadership team to develop and
implement work plans and report on results that support BC Hydro’s Indigenous Relations strategy.
- Develops project plans for various Indigenous Relations initiatives, including scope, budget, schedule and project team
responsibilities in order to accomplish project objectives. Examples include Indigenous Relations involvement in the
Integrated Resource Plan, Calls for Power, and other initiatives requiring Province-wide engagement with First Nations.
- Secures internal and external resources with appropriate skill sets, assigns work and provides instructions, advice and
leadership to project staff, reviews work in progress and assesses completed work for accuracy, required results and
quality.
- Manages implementation of projects within agreed upon scope, timeline and budget. Provides regular progress update to
the team and management.
- Assist with the development of agreement mandates for Relationship Agreements and Impact Benefit Agreements.
- Supports relationship building and workplan implementation with First Nations organizations such as the First Nations
Energy and Mining Council
- Provide support to Indigenous Relations regional teams on complex strategic files (for example, litigation support).
- As required, completes project tasks and reviews with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Builds ongoing relationship with a wide range of internal and external contacts including provincial government agencies
and other utilities to promote their understanding of BC Hydro’s Indigenous Relations principles, vision and values and
cross-organizational learning.
- Develops, coordinates and reviews materials for briefing BC Hydro Senior Management, Executive and Board, and drives
consistency among regional teams around materials preparation
What you bring
- University degree in Public Policy, Law, Indigenous Studies, Government, Public or Business Administration, Engineering,
or similar. Equivalent education and working experience may also be considered.
- 7 or more years of experience in a business environment including experience in managing multiple programs or projects
with some exposure to cross cultural Indigenous setting.
